Press Release from 2009's 1st Annual Event:
RE/MAX realtor drives support of Halton Region school breakfast program
through 1st Annual Golf Tournament
Cambridge, ON (June 10, 2009) – Local RE/MAX realtor, Michelle Wobst, is throwing her support behind Halton Food for Thought—a school breakfast and nutrition program serving 83 schools throughout Halton region.
Wobst is a member of the Halton Entrepreneurial Leadership Partners (H.E.L.P.)—a network of local entrepreneurs in support of business and community—organizing the 1st Annual Halton Food for Thought Golf Tournament in support of the charity. The proceeds of the June 19th event, co-sponsored by RE/MAX Real Estate Centre, will help fund this vital not-for-profit service, which provides more than one million meals for kids in both Public and Catholic schools throughout Oakville, Acton, Burlington, Georgetown, Milton and surrounding areas each year.
“The reality is that the need for these programs increases substantially during recessionary times, especially as funding and sponsorship contract,” says Wobst. “We want to close that gap. Over 22,000 kids rely on Halton breakfast programs each day—and that number is growing. Our goal is to raise at least $7,500 through this one-day event. The money will not only serve to feed young bodies, but also to nourish young minds. It’s a proven fact that kids who start the day with a healthy meal are better able to concentrate and achieve academically.”
All golfers are invited to attend the event, which will take place at the Century Pines Golf Club in Flamborough. The $135 registration fee includes 18 holes of golf, power cart, signature barbeque dinner and awards, a presentation by Olympian Kimberly Ribble-Orr, as well as a martini hole, nutrition break, grab bags, and a Bowen mini-massage treatment. The tournament will also feature prizes for its hole-in-one, longest-drive, closest-to-the-pin, and putting contests. A raffle is also planned for the event.
Sponsorship opportunities are available to local businesses or individuals. For more information or to register for the tournament, visit the H.E.L.P. website at: www.there2help.com. Additional information about Halton Food for Thought is available at: www.haltonfoodforthought.ca.
